What is a drill bit?

A drill bit is a cutting tool that uses the rotation generated by a motor as power and is operated by a person or machine to drill holes in different materials.

What is the use of a drill bit?

We need to drill holes in different materials, which require different sizes and shapes, so manufacturers make various types of drill bits to meet different uses. For simplicity, the materials are divided into metal and non-metal. Metals are generally copper, iron, aluminum and steel, and the most commonly used non-metals are wood, plastic, stone and concrete. Due to the different hardness of these materials, the shape of the drill bit is also different, and the diameter of the hole is generally standardized (divided into metric and imperial) drill bits. The cross-section of the drill bit is basically circular, so that the resistance to rotation will not be too large and will not damage the material. Of course, there are also special drill bits for drilling holes with non-circular cross-sections, such as mortise drill bits.
